The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) was created on July 1, 1973. It was a merger between the Clark County Sheriffs Department and the Las Vegas City Police. The LVMPD provides police services to the City of Las Vegas and the unincorporated area of Clark County. Its more than 5000 employees are responsible for a jurisdiction of approximately 8,000 square miles.
