About
Happy Life Mission is a non-profit charity organization that aims to provide hope for the abandoned children through a three-fold Ministry: Shelter, Education and Medical care. We are located at Roysambu, along Lumumba Drive, next to Jesse Kay Hospital.
The abandonment of a child is unimaginable, but it happens everyday in many countries of the world, and Kenya is no exception. Unemployment and extreme poverty, health challenges, substance abuse, family dysfunction, fear, and despair too often lead to the unimaginable. And we have witnessed it with our own eyes. Hospitals throughout Kenya regularly face the problem of mothers walking out of wards without their babies, never to return. It is not uncommon for a baby to be abandoned outdoors in a ditch or bush, pit latrines, or just left on the doorstep or in the hands of one likely to show compassion for the child.
In 2002, Pst. Peter and Faith Ndungu opened Happy Life Children's Home to care for three abandoned children. In God's providence and by faith, three turned into ten, ten turned into twenty, and on it went from there, to more than 650 and counting. And The Happy Life Mission was born. This has not been an easy journey but it has been an exciting one to say the least. From renting a house for Kshs.15,000 in one of the suburbs of Nairobi in 2002, to owning three properties by 2019, God has been at the center of it all. What is so remarkable is that many lives of children have been impacted positively as well as of many staff that have served with us in the course of those years. Without any government funding, the mission has relied wholly on the compassion and generosity of our partners and friends who have given way beyond our imagination or thinking.
The united and dedicated leadership of the four Directors – Peter and Faith Ndungu of Kenya, and Jim and Sharon Powell of the USA, together with the boards on each side has borne much fruit.
