Baobab Institute for Health Development is an international organization that promotes local ownership of health and development issues in Africa. It develops strategies and supports the implementation of policies and initiatives that strengthen the capacity of local systems to deliver sustainable results at regional and national levels. Baobab Institute is committed to the agenda of making development less dependent and donor-driven. It fosters the emergence of local, dynamic leadership that is open to meaningful partnerships. In close collaboration with public authorities, international institutions, economic and social actors and representatives of civil society, Baobab institute proposes solutions based on respect for human rights, learning, experience sharing and innovation. The Institute sees Family Planning and Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights as central to the development agenda and believes they should be mainstreamed in all its activities.
