About
You'll discover Mosetlha, Madikwe's only authentic bush camp and genuine eco lodge, literally at the heart of this magnificent Big 5, malaria free Park.
Family owned and run, the business continues to operate with the same integrity, ethics, philosophy and goals upon which it was created in 1995.
It has always been our mission to provide an exclusive and unique wilderness experience for our guests, with minimal ecological impact on our surroundings and to allow guests to travel responsibly … and tread gently through our beautiful land.
The bush camp is a 16 bed eco lodge built around a huge Weeping Wattle tree (called Mosetlha in the local Setswana language) in wood, rock, and thatch; a tiny footprint of 10 raised cabins (mimicking bird hides) with a central lapa and dining boma.
Eco-conscious and intent on taking you back to basics, there are environmentally sustainable alternatives for electricity and running water.
Oil lamps illuminate the Camp, food is kept fresh and drinks icy in gas fridges. Traditional bushfare is prepared on the open fire, cooked over coals in potjie pots and braai grids.
Fresh water is brought in daily from our borehole and heated through a donkey boiler for safari showers.
In his book Authentic Ecolodge (in which we feature amongst the top 36 in the world), Hitesh Mehta developed the following definition:
An ecolodge is a 2 to 75 roomroom, low-impact, nature-based, financially sustainable accommodation facility that helps protect sensitive neighbouring areas; involves and helps benefit local communities, offers tourists an interpretive and interactive participatory experience; provides spiritual communion with nature and culture; and is planned, designed, constructed, and operated in an environmentally and socially sensitive manner.
He goes on to clarify principles and criteria that must be embodied and satisfied – all of which we successfully fulfil allowing us to confidently claim our solid sustainable eco credentials.
