National Steel Car is a company rich in history, a history that has influenced the evolution of the railcar, as we know it today.

Since its founding in 1912, National Steel Car has continuously designed and manufactured freight cars to meet the ever-changing requirements and standards of the railroad industry.

Today, our Hamilton, Ontario facility stands proudly as the largest and most modern "single-site"​ rail car plant in North America.

Our - best in class - freight and tank cars are manufactured on one of five (5) fully integrated assembly lines. Each line employs extensive use of state-of-the-art manufacturing and finishing processes including robotics, CNC parts fabrication and semi-automated assembly.

Through a process of continuous improvement, we ensure the National Steel Car brand continues to be valued and trusted by our customers.

We are the only railcar company certified ISO 9001:2008, a testament to our dedication and pride in workmanship. In addition, the company has been honoured with the TTX SECO award on a continuous basis for over a decade.
