Founded in 1904, Sport Lisboa e Benfica is the most decorated club in Portugal, and one of the most decorated in Europe, with 83 official trophies. It is the Portuguese club with the most members (278 thousand) and the largest number of supporters worldwide. The club is largely connected with Portuguese communities all over the globe, particularly in Europe, the Americas and Portuguese-speaking African countries.



As of 2023, Benfica ranks 4th worldwide amongst Men's Football Clubs, per IFFHS, and 24th in the Deloitte Money League.



Benfica's greatness is best displayed by its stadium, with 65 thousand seats and world-class lighting and acoustics. With over 21 million visitors since its inauguration in 2003, Estádio da Luz was the host of the Euro 2004 final, as well as the 2014 and 2020 Champions League finals.



At its training center, Benfica Campus, the club nurtures some of the most widely recognized talent in football, having developed the likes of João Félix, Bernardo Silva, Rúben Dias and many other global stars.
