About
The Airborne Museum is located in Sainte-Mère-Eglise and faces the steeple on which John Steele's dummy is still hanging. This paratrooper had the misfortune of landing on the church, his story and that of the village were made famous by the movie "The Longest Day".
The museum is dedicated to American paratroopers and glidermen who came the 6th of June 1944 to free France from the German occupation. By visiting the four buildings of the Airborne Museum, you will understand how the D-Day in Normandy was organized; you can imagine what could be the feeling of these men during the D-Day.
The Airborne Museum offers you the opportunity to Board on a real Waco glider, unique in France or in a C-47 plane as the troops of the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions did for the Battle of Normandy.
The museum's collections come alive with realistic scenes. Also, you will have the sensation of jumping from a C-47 plane to land in the heart of the village of Sainte-Mère-Eglise, or fight at the Battle of La Fière surrounded by flooded marshes and finally you will be lost during the Battle of Hedgerows...
The film of the museum "the paths of Liberty" projected in the cinema explains with emotion the fates of the men came in Utah Beach, Omaha Beach, Gold Beach, Juno Beach and Sword Beach as well as the highlights of the aerial and maritime landings.
In 2018, the museum offers all visitors to get a tablet to go back in time: the Histopad. With this tablet and its hyperealistic 3D graphics, you will witness the arrival of the first gliders in Normandy, you will experience a parachute jump from the plane that transported the famous John Steele, you will witness decisive battles that marked History and many more surprises ... Immersion is guaranteed!
