About

Action Equipment was started on Cameron Road in Tauranga in the mid-1980s by Clive Porter, an inventor, engineer and outdoor equipment enthusiast. Illness forced the business' sale to new owners, one of whom – Kevin Lloyd – is still with Action Equipment as Group General Manager. At this time, Action Equipment was a dealer for Husqvarna, Jonsered and other brands.

Richard and Lucy Ive bought Action Equipment towards the end of 2007. They recognised the strengths of Action Equipment's brands and reputation, and applied their vision and considerable experience in the English automotive industry to modernise and grow the business.

By the following winter, they had expanded Action Equipment's product range to complement those already represented, and opened a store in Katikati to better serve their growing customer base north of the city.

In 2010 they moved the Tauranga store to larger showrooms on Cameron Road, and then had to move again to Glasgow Street in 2011.

Action Equipment also acquired the Hamilton Husqvarna dealership, rejuvenated the product line, and moved from Te Rapa to the new Gallagher complex in Melville.

This solid, sustained growth reflects the Ives' previous car dealership expertise and their commitment to continuing investment and modern customer care systems. This has been recognised by all outdoor equipment stores holding Husqvarna's coveted Crown Dealer status and Platinum award recognition in 2011 and every year since 2013.

A devastating fire destroyed Action Equipment's Tauranga store in early 2015. With the assistance of staff, suppliers and insurers – not to mention sheer hard work! – Action Equipment was up and running again just a couple of weeks later out of premises in Judea. On completion of the rebuild, Action Equipment returned to their flagship showroom and workshop in March 2016.

Action Equipment was sold in January 2017 to new owners who continue to invest in improved processes and business expansion.
