About

Magma Geopark (Magma) is a soft adventure and immersive cultural experience company in the segment of Sustainable Tourism. Magma are mainly owned by public institutions including municipalities, counties, museums and two outdoor organisations and a company working with developing new tourism products and tools for schools. MGP was established in 2006 as a regional development project. The area of MGP (2329 km2) covers the territory of 5 municipalities in Wild South West Norway. Magma is located about one hour by car or train southeast of Stavanger. Magma aims to promote its unique geological and cultural heritage to help develop and sustain the Region. In 2009 an Non profit private company with the name Magma Geopark AS was established and in 2010 MGP became the second Scandinavian member of the European and Global Geopark Networks which are supported by UNESCO. Magma is leading #GEOfood initiative Worldwide. Locally Magma is working with schools delivering outdoor activities and tours, Apps, immersive experiences. Magma is engaging local communities and policy makers thought projects linked to geological, natural and cultural heritage.
