METRO wurde 1964 in Mülheim an der Ruhr gegründet und gehört zu den Pionieren im deutschen Großhandel. Mehr als 14.000 Mitarbeiter arbeiten in 103 METRO und METRO GASTRO Großmärkten, alleine in Deutschland. Weltweit ist METRO Cash & Carry in 25 Ländern vertreten und beschäftigt weltweit mehr als 150.000 Mitarbeiter. Im Geschäftsjahr 2016/17 erwirtschaftete METRO einen Umsatz von rund 37 Mrd. Euro.
