Has been started in 2001 as master classes for ballet students, today Dance Open Festival is acknowledged as one of the top ballet festivals in Russia and one of the most important cultural landmarks of St. Petersburg. Every year the Festival brings together the world's premier ballet companies and the most talented dancers in the capital of Russian ballet.

Historically, the Festival was created as an international platform for observing world's choreographic context and discussing today's ballet scene, it was always opened to all variety of styles, but it remains to be highly demanding for the level of all participants.

Every year the Festival aims to create inspiring atmosphere for all balletomanes coming to St. Petersburg. Varied programme and repertoire permits everyone to find something special for him, be it a ballet premiere, thematic exhibition or public-talk with iconic dancer or choreographer. Dance Open Festival invites all ballet students to explore secrets of the legendary Russian ballet and participate in master classes given by the leading dance teachers. Also the festival keeps tradition to organize Dance Open Gala where ballet dancers will have a chance not only to perform their talents, but also to become the laureate of the Dance Open Award.
