About
The Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden - IFW Dresden - conducts modern materials science. The research work covers a wide range from the pure advancement of knowledge in the fields of physics and chemistry to the technological preparation of new materials and products. Research focuses on the physical and chemical properties of solids that are interesting and useful for new and sustainable functional materials. This includes materials that exhibit special physical or quantum mechanical phenomena, such as magnetism and superconductivity, or that promise unusual properties due to their nanoscale characteristics.
In addition, the institute's mission is to train young scientists and engineers and to make the knowledge gained available to industry.
The IFW Dresden employs more than 500 people from over 40 nations.
Our research institute is a member of the Leibniz Association and a partner of the DRESDEN-concept.
