About
Wellman has been making safe, reliable, and highly productive custom industrial furnaces for over 100 years – furnaces that Wellman manufactured 50+ years ago are still operating today! Wellman makes many different types of furnaces, for reheating, hardening, annealing, normalizing, stress relieving, tempering, and special chemical processes; they can be electrically heated or gas-fired, with air or protective atmospheres. Wellman also provides electric resistance heaters, and replacement parts and technical support for every furnace we've ever built.
Every Wellman furnace is engineered and built for a specific customer's needs, applying 100+ years of cumulative experience designing and building thousands of furnaces. Customers choose Wellman because they'll get a furnace that meets all of their needs, from an expert engineering and manufacturing company that is attentive and responsive. Most of Wellman's business is repeat orders from satisfied customers in the USA, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Korea, China, Korea, India, Malaysia, Thailand, Israel, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia.
We always start by understanding a customer's products and processes, then apply our engineering expertise and practical know-how to design a customized furnace, including controls that incorporate safety features. We test each furnace before we ship it, and support commissioning and start-up as needed.
Wellman's roots can be traced to the General Electric Company's Industrial Heating Department which moved its operation from Schenectady, New York, to Shelbyville, Indiana, in 1955. In 1979, Wellman plc, a British company, purchased the operations from GE and renamed it Wellman Furnaces Inc. In 1988, managers of the Shelbyville facility bought the business and ran the company until 2003, when Precious Technology Group, LLC took over ownership. Wellman Furnaces, Inc. has grown as a versatile and capable business able to carry on the responsibility entrusted to us by our customers!
