Deep inland very near the Portugal border and on the south bank off the Douro river, above 600 meters, is the Colinas do Douro Project.
Embedded in the "Internacional Douro River Nature Park", Colinas do Douro is right in the transition off the granite plateau, and the first schist folds to the Douro River. Between big clips and rocks, we were able to plant 106 ha of vineyards, the rest is 400 ha of pure biodiversity off indigenous plants, trees and animals. Due to this biodiversity program, unique animals and birds are regularly seen here, like the black-chasco bird, griffins, Egyptian vultures, Bonelli´s eagle, Golden-eagle deer, wild pigs, and soo much more..
