On 1 July 2022, Northland DHB was disestablished and became part of the national health agency responsible for the day-to-day running of the health system: Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora.

Health New Zealand - Te Tai Tokerau is the provider of health and disability services for the population of Northland. Employing over 3100 staff and covering the area from Topuni in the south to North Cape, it serves a population of about 151,000.
