About

Words of Colour is a creative agency and social enterprise that creates alternative pathways for writers, creatives, entrepreneurs and communities of colour to thrive - and for unheard stories to be told.

Launched in 2006, Words of Colour curates and produces projects that straddle literature, creative industries, academia, research, digital entrepreneurship and creative wellbeing to generate meaningful change.

We collaborate on sector-changing research (Writing the Future, 2005; Rethinking Diversity in Publishing, 2019; Creatively Minded and Ethnically Diverse, 2021); co-produce and co-lead on artistic and talent development initiatives (Take Flight Hub, 2020 (UCL/Spread the Word); UpLift, 2022 (Irish Writers Centre); Poets of Colour Incubator, 2023 (Manchester Poetry Library/Manchester Met); and lend our expertise on the role of creative interventions to facilitate wellbeing and racial justice with universities, public sector, parliamentarians and NGOs, most recently the national consultation and review on Creative Health.

In collaboration with Theatre Peckham, Words of Colour have just secured four years of philanthropic funding to inspire 200 12-13 year olds to reimagine the future through creative play, writing, and theatre.

Words of Colour has a multi-skilled, intersectional team who are practising creatives and entrepreneurs, passionate about social justice and making a difference. Their skill sets lie in sustainable design, psychotherapy, media, strategic communications, literature, audiovisual production, artist development, web development, creative learning, and digital and graphic design.
