About

Through research, technology, and education, the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) promotes the professional practice of arboriculture and fosters a greater worldwide awareness of the benefits of trees, and has been doing so since its inception in 1924.

ISA exists so that professionals, allied professionals, public officials, and consumers worldwide recognize the economic, environmental, and societal benefits and values of trees and their care at a cost that demonstrates the wise stewardship of resources. We are registered in the State of Illinois as a 501c (5) nonprofit organization.

The following guiding principles provide a framework for our objectives and inspire us to advance ISA's mission and communicate our philosophy to our diverse audiences. These guiding principles steer our organization and support our vision as we advance ISA's mission.

Research
ISA is focused on research and the dissemination of results to contribute to a world with healthier trees, sustainable communities, and a green economy.

Public Awareness
ISA is recognized by the public as the worldwide network for science-based information on the benefits and care of trees.

Professional Development
ISA is a cohesive, inclusive network of practitioners, scientists, and students that is recognized as the global source for arboricultural information and knowledge.

Promoting the Profession
Arborists are recognized as qualified, competent, and safe tree care professionals who are sought out the by the public, government organizations, and other professions.

Safety
Professional tree care practitioners have the required knowledge, training, and expertise to perform proper tree care safely.
