About
Launched in 2004, GR Initiative for Leaders (GRIL) is a Christian organization created by alumni of the DeVos Urban Leadership Initiative (DVULI). We invest in emerging leaders by providing training over a nine month period to adults and teens focusing on expanding and developing the core values of balance, accountability, empowerment, interdependence, leverage, and diversity (working towards a racism-free community). This process helps leaders plan and implement personal, professional and ministry growth more effectively with the youth and the people they serve.
Our dedicated staff, board, and volunteers work hard to deliver innovative programming that addresses the pressing needs of teens, adult youth workers, and our community. We acknowledge that the structure of urban training needs to focus on the basis that leaders in the urban setting have the passion and motivation for the people they serve, but often lack the proper leadership training to sustain the calling on their lives.
GRIL Teen Faith Based Leadership Program – 9 month training and mentoring program for teens 16-19 years of age in partnership with local ministries, churches and youth serving organizations
The Ambassador Club – this is a school-based leadership training program for teens currently taking place at Ottawa Hills and Union High Schools, 30 participants are chosen by each school to participate
Adult Leadership Program – this faith-based leadership program uses the DeVos Urban Leadership Initiative curriculum and is created for adults who desire to grow as healthy and sustainable leaders for long term community impact with youth and families
Community Leadership Trainings - 90 minute sessions specifically designed for leaders from different sectors in the community who are interested in growing as leaders in the community
