About

The Beyond Limits Academic Program ("Beyond Limits") of Stamford Peace Youth Foundation, Inc. ("Stamford Peace") uses formal and informal academic supports to positively influence local young people and help them achieve their full potential.

Beyond Limits develops academic confidence in local area youth – with a particular focus on families eligible to receive discounted services – through our provision of quality, highly-subsidized, non-school-based peer-to-peer math & science tutoring, enrichment programming, mentoring, and academic advocacy.

Lower-income young people face a vast and persistent opportunity gap compared with their more affluent peers. Approaches to academic support ring of the "same old, same old" – remain after school, attend a study hall, seek homework help at a community center, etc. In fact, lower-income families still have few, if any, robust academic support opportunities affordably available to them that can help them overcome historical disadvantages.

At the same time, there has been a dramatic growth in resources available to more affluent children, with the growing trend for this student segment being to seize these opportunities in an effort to gain/maintain their competitive advantage (even when remedial support may not even be necessary). In Fairfield County, private tutors and tutoring companies charge $50-150 per hour and up for their services, with private summer programs costing upwards of $1,000 for even one week. These high costs are prohibitive for most lower-income families, who as a result are forced to forego the help they need. Far too often, these children start academically behind and end up even further behind. The regular, intensive, and high-quality academic supports we provide through Beyond Limits is our commitment to helping curtail a growing opportunity gap in our community.
