In 1828, Shimla received its first landmark- Combermere Bridge. The bridge built by Lord Combermere, the British Commander-in-Chief of the Indian army, Spanned a gushing mountain stream. It took over hundred and fifty years for the next major landmark to be built by that stream - Hotel Combermere.
