About
Yogyakarta Legal Aid Institute, LBH Yogyakarta, was founded on September 6th, 1981 as a branch of the larger organization, YLBHI, which was established in 1970. Yogyakarta Legal Aid was established by political figures that were concerned about their duty to uphold the law during a period of misuse of power and courts by the state apparatus.
In the past few decades, Yogyakarta Legal Aid has gained the trust of the community as the number of criminal, civil, political, labor, and other case submissions increases. LBH Yogyakarta also uses structural legal aid to support vulnerable communities that often struggle to access justice. Yogyakarta Legal Aid works in defense of justice for a society that is often oppressed, politically or economically, and unable to fight for justice.
