南京师范大学中北学院成立于1999年，由百年名校南京师范大学与南京师范大学教育发展基金会共同举办，是首批经中华人民共和国教育部批准成立的独立学院和经江苏省事业单位登记管理局批准成立的公益性事业单位。 南京师范大学中北学院于1999年成立于江苏省南京市，并于同年开始招生。2015年5月4日下午，南京师范大学中北学院迁址丹阳合作办学签约仪式在丹阳市举行。 截至2019年10月，学院丹阳校区占地总面积900亩，规划建设总建筑面积38.75万平方米；有在校生9800余人，教职工近400人；下设8个系科、共有40个本科专业，涉及经、法、文、理、工、管、艺等门类。
