About

In 1931, Smt Kamala Nehru started a dispensary in Swaraj Bhavan to treat freedom fighters and their families. In 1936, Kamala Nehru, frail in health but indomitable in spirit, continued her philanthropic work and expressed her desire to Gandhiji to give this endeavour a permanent shape after her demise.
In 1937, the Kamala Nehru Memorial Society was formed and registered under the Society Registration Act of 1860 as a Not-for-Profit Charitable Society. In 1939, Mahatma Gandhiji laid the foundation of the hospital. In 1941, Gandhiji inaugurated the hospital on 28 February 1941, thus Kamala Nehru Memorial Hospital came into existence as a 40-bed hospital for Obs & Gynae. In 1959, a cancer facility was added in a new block cherished as Begun Abul Kalam Azad, inaugurated by the then Vice President of India. In 1964, affiliation to Motilal Nehru Medical College for Obs & Gynae (Teaching & Clinical facilities). It was designated as the Government of India's postpartum program centre in 1971. In 1991, the hospital was recognized by the National Board of Examination in Medical Sciences for DNB teaching and training in Obs & Gynae, and Radiation Oncology. In 1992, the hospital was recognised as a Regional Institute of Maternal and Child Health by the Government of India. In 1994, Recognised as Regional Cancer Centre by Government of India
In 2012, the hospital was reorganised and new facilities were added, making it multi-speciality with 376 beds.In 2019, accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals (NABH) In 2020, the hospital was accredited by NABL.

The Regional Cancer Centre is continuing its efforts towards cancer control and awareness programs, adding new facilities. The effective patient care and prompt treatment has become a boon, not only for the people of Uttar Pradesh but neighboring states of Bihar and Madhya Pradesh besides Nepal.
