About

In 1931, a small school was started in Udaipur by Dr. Mohan Sinha Mehta in the midst of the national movement for freedom. The objective of Vidya Bhawan was to provide civic minded education to all sections of society. It pioneered the concepts of co-education, extra-curricular activities, respect for nature and the absence of corporal punishment.
Over the years, Vidya Bhawan has grown into an ecosystem of educational institutions with 3 schools, 2 teacher education colleges, a Polytechnic College offering Engineering Diploma, a Rural Institute offering graduate and post-graduate courses, an Education Resource Centre, a Krishi Vigyan Kendra, center for farmer outreach and innovation in agriculture, and Prakriti Sadhana Kendra, a Centre for ecological preservation and study. Today, each of the VB institutions work towards providing high quality and civic minded education to all sections of society, especially to those who are economically disadvantaged. Currently, around 3500 students study at Vidya Bhawan. Another 10,000 students in government schools are benefitted from Vidya Bhawan's extension services. Education at Vidya Bhawan combines rigorous academics with facilities for craft, culture, sports and environmental studies.
