Professional association of attorneys-at-law

Each attorney-at-law and trainee attorney is a member of the professional association and this is a mandatory membership. The role of the such association is to cooperate in shaping and applying the law, preparing the trainee attorneys for the proper practice of the attorney-at-law and carrying out tasks in the field of professional development and supervision of the proper performance of the profession.

The profession of attorneys-at-law in Poland

The profession of attorney-at-law is a profession of public trust (the Act of 6 July 1982 on attorneys-at-law). Practicing as the attorney-at-law consists in providing legal assistance. The provision of legal assistance consists in particular in providing legal advice and consultations, drawing up legal opinions, preparing draft legal acts and appearing in front of the courts and various bodies, offices and institutions as a proxy or defender, including appearing before the Supreme Court, the Constitutional Tribunal, the Supreme Administrative Court , The Court of Justice of the European Union and the European Court of Human Rights.

Professional ethics and disciplinary responsibility

Attorneys-at-law are required to observe professional ethics, including the Code of Ethics of Attorneys-at-law, which regulates the basic values of the profession, including independence, professional secrecy, avoidance of conflicts of interest, protection of the profession's dignity in professional, public and private life as well as customer loyalty. For breaking the ethical principles, attorneys-at-law and trainee attorneys are subject to disciplinary liability before specially appointed self-government bodies for this purpose. Attorneys-at-law and trainee attorneys are liable to disciplinary action for conduct contrary to the law, ethical principles or dignity of the profession, or for violation of professional duties.
