About
WORI is a Ugandan NGO committed to promoting the rights and empowerment of women and youth for over a decade. Our mission is to empower women and youth to achieve their full potential by giving them access to education, health care, and economic opportunities.
We work across Uganda supporting women and girls to overcome domestic and gender-based violence, allowing them to Regain dignity and overcome economic vulnerability.
Vision
A society free from violence that recognizes the needs and rights of women and youth.
Human Rights Program
This program seeks to proactively reduce the effects of GBV on society for the growth and development of women and youths. In the next five years, WORI plans to focus on; awareness and prevention, rehabilitation and providing legal aid to survivors.
Nyonga Women's Shelter
This shelter provides a safe space for GBV survivors by providing short-term accommodation, rehabilitation, economic empowerment, skill acquisition and reintegration to GBV survivors. Currently, the shelter accommodates 35 survivors.
Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights
Under this program, WORI engages women and youth in awareness and training both in schools and communities through projects like Sexual reproductive health rights (focusing on body growth and puberty), Menstrual hygiene management that aims at educating boys and girls about menstruation to reduce stigma and production of affordable, eco-friendly, and healthy reusable pads.
Economic Empowerment Program
Under this program, women (within the shelter and community) learn skills such as knitting, weaving, baking, micro agriculture, and gardening. In addition, they are taught financial literacy and business skills, and given start-up capital to establish their micro-enterprises and increase their financial independence.
