About
In 2014 a group of patients living with Narcolepsy and clinically diagnosed Insomnia, together with their family and Friends came together and formed Narcolepsy Awareness in Kenya, today known as Narcolepsy Africa Foundation (NAF).
The main objective was to offer support to each other and also raise Narcolepsy Awareness in Kenya. Our online awareness efforts have also brought together Patients Living with Narcolepsy from other African Countries like Rwanda, Uganda, Nigeria and Burundi.
Our Objective
~ To raise awareness of narcolepsy and provide information about it to patients, caregivers, health care professions and to the public.
~ To organize conferences relating to Narcolepsy, Sleep and its effects.
~ To be a bridge to people trying to get proper diagnosis on their sleep condition, offer psychosocial support to our members and offer specific information support to schools and work place.
~ To campaign to influence the policies of legislators and funding bodies to recognize and support People Living with Narcolepsy
~ Providing support to patients and relatives in their interactions with representatives of the healthcare system
~ Education (knowledge transfer for professionals and the population). To collect and publish Narcolepsy information on the NAF website.
Narcolepsy Africa Foundation (NAF) is managed by a group of Volunteers comprising of Persons with Narcolepsy, other Sleep Disorders and caregivers. We have no full-time staff.
NAF does not receive any funding from health authorities, drug companies or the Ministry of Health. It relies entirely on its members and well-wishers.
The website holds considerable information and resources. Our Social Media Pages are active and our email address and inboxes get responded to promptly.
Our support group is available to anyone with Narcolepsy amongst other sleep disorders, their family and friends, along with anyone having an interest in the illness.
*Registration is free for persons living with Narcolepsy.
