Our mission is to provide clean, affordable, and reliable energy for all.

sonnen is a pioneer in networked and decentralized energy solutions, including energy storage and smart virtual power plant (VPP) programs that optimize the use of energy for households and commercial businesses. The unique sonnenVPP
software connects our customers together forming virtual power plants that enable sonnen to generate greater financial rewards for customers and offer grid operators innovative services that help support the local grid and increase resiliency.

The company began developing its pioneering technologies in Germany in 2010 and opened an R&D and production facility in the USA in 2015. sonnen operates additional sites in Italy, the UK, Australia, and Spain. With 125,000 systems installed around the world, continues to pioneer energy storage and virtual power plant solutions that deliver the greatest value to our customers. Since 2019, sonnen has been a wholly owned subsidiary of Shell and part of the Renewables and Energy Solutions business.
