About
The Township of Southgate is a rural municipality in the County of Grey, in Ontario, Canada.
Bounded by three Provincial Highways (Hwy 89, 6 and 10), Southgate is located in southern Grey County, approximately 80 km (50mi) from Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area.
Southgate is comprised of three former townships which were amalgamated in 2000: Township of Egremont, Township of Proton and the Village of Dundalk.
The two largest urban centres in Southgate are Dundalk and Holstein.
Southgate is also the childhood home of Agnes Macphail, the first woman to be elected to the Canadian House of Commons, and one of the first two women elected to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario.
