About
The Lebanon Reforestation Initiative started as a project launched in 2010 by the United States Forest Service (USFS) Office of International Programs (IP) through the support and funding of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and then became a local NGO in 2014.
We ensure to spread our activities fairly across Lebanon's multiple governorates, ecosystems, communities and biozones. Our efforts since 2015 have been focused on the Forest Connectivity Corridor strategy.
Our mission is to expand, manage, and protect Lebanon's forests, biodiversity and landscapes through a community-based approach to build climate change resilient communities and ecosystems.
Our Objectives focus on:
- Improving forest and landscape management across Lebanon
- Integrating Climate Change considerations in the multiple programs and activities
- Establishing a functioning Research Unit and partner with national, regional and international research institutions
- Institutionalizing and upscaling the environmental education and awareness programs
- Upscaling the advocacy and lobbying experience
- Establishing an urban forestry program
Our Achievements so far:
- 1,551,290 seedlings planted
- 76% average survival rate
- 236,364 tons of CO2 reduced
- 4,775 HA of land management
- 18,470 job opportunities created
- 27% women engaged
- 65% youth engaged
- 241 community engaged
