Founded in 1984 near Edinburgh, the Chippendale International School of Furniture runs intensive, 9 month, professional furniture design courses and cabinet making courses, giving our students the skills to become professional furniture makers and cabinet makers.

The Chippendale International School of Furniture offers a unique opportunity for students who want to make working with wood their future. The furniture course covers in-depth practical work, core woodworking skills, furniture design and furniture restoration through expert tuition, lectures, field trips and lots of one-to-one, individual teaching.

Below is an overview of the key elements of our highly regarded furniture course and cabinet making course:

An intensive 30-week course
Up to 1400 hours bench time
One-to-one tuition with highly-experienced tutors
Teaches a broad base of skills
Visiting external tutors
Field trips to historic houses, museums and furniture makers
Antique furniture restoration, learning from past masters
Peer-to-peer learning
Individual and original project work and design
Learning alongside a functioning cabinet making business

Still not sure? Why not try one of our five-day Introductory Courses, held four times a year and enjoy a fun week being introduced to a wide range of woodworking skills. Anyone attending one of our short courses and then going on to sign up for our full-time course will have the cost of the short course deducted from the full-time course fees.
