About

With the aim of stepping into the global market, that would bring revenue to Sri Lanka along with opportunities to harness the maximum from our highly skilled pool of human resources graduated from state and private universities and most importantly to establish a research and development landscape that could lead to breakthrough discoveries and innovations, Sri Lanka Institute of Biotechnology (SLIBTEC) was established as a fully government owned multidisciplinary research and development entity, incorporated under the Ministry of Education. With the prime objective of establishing a high-end biotech product development ecosystem together with increased exports, SLIBTEC is focusing to invest on diverse areas in order to provide biotech related solutions to contemporary and future nationally and globally important aspects.

SLIBTEC comprises of two components, SLIBTEC Research, a state-of-the-art multidisciplinary research facility; and SLIBTEC Park, to facilitate the manufacture of high-end biotech products within a one-stop-shop for regulatory support. SLIBTEC will also expand its capacity as a Regional Research Centre for the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) having unique facilities within the institute. Combining innovation, development, and production ends together and continued adoption of cutting-edge technologies will enable SLIBTEC to build a novel innovative eco-system in Sri Lanka while uplifting all the relevant sectors with essential facilities for biotech-based manufacturing and start-up operations.
