The Primary Trauma Care Foundation (PTCF) trains doctors and other health professionals in the immediate management of severe trauma cases using minimal equipment or clinical facilities.

The educational approach includes a short, intensive course followed by a cascading training programme so that the number of instructors is multiplied and they can take action as close to the need as possible. Follow-up assessments help to ensure quality standards, but ownership lies with the local health authorities. Courses have taken place in more than 88 countries worldwide, involving many thousands of health professionals.
