Wildfires have become an increasingly reported annual event over recent years, both in Ireland and internationally. Specific, timely information relating to both the dynamic fire-line progress as well as the environment is required by both Air Corp Helicopter and ground based firefighting crews in order to make the right decision and manage response to wildfires.
This project is based around designing, constructing and testing a digital Common Operational Picture platform, using latest Earth Observation and Artificial Intelligence technologies, to capture, fuse and generate useful information such as terrain, land-cover, weather, infrastructure, human activity - which can then be transmitted, in real-time, to responders in the air and on the ground. Examples include helping direct crews to suitable water resources, identifying vulnerable humans, safe-guarding crops, livestock and infrastructure.
