About
We are a group of people in Alberta who advocate for better treatment of People With Lived or Living Experience (PWLLE) of drug use. By supporting each other, educating others in the community, and raising awareness of health issues, AAWEAR strives for an improved quality of life for those in the drug using community. We want all Albertans to recognize that PLLWE are people who deserve respect and understanding within our communities.
AAWEAR achieves this through
- Upskilling: allowing members to develop self-confidence, social networks and life skills
- Creating a strong voice: representing people who use drugs on decision-making committees
- Advocating for improved health: bringing attention to health issues that affect people who use drugs
- Educating Others: speaking to frontline service providers, health care workers and members of the non-drug using community
- Getting involved in the community: taking part in cleaning up the community, and raising awareness around homelessness
